Obituary for Wanda Layton

Wanda  Layton
Mrs. Wanda (Mitts) Layton of Tuckerman, Arkansas, departed this life on Friday, October 5, 2018. She was born June 20, 1927 in Swifton, Arkansas, the daughter of Howard Wesley and Ida May (Lewellyn) Mitts.
Mrs. Layton was a graduate of Swifton High School. In the years that followed, she married Mr. Thomas “Gene” Layton, and became a military wife, traveling the world. While Gene served in the military, Wanda worked for civil service. She was a member of the Swifton Church of Christ, who loved attending church services.
Mrs. Layton volunteered at Newport Hospital, enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, and was an avid reader. Family was everything to her, and she loved the time spent taking care of her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Layton will be known for her incredible strength in times of hardship, her happy nature, and the wonderful attitude she had toward life itself.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas Eugene “Gene” Layton, Sr.; three sisters, Jewel Scoggin, Ollie Ellen Templeton, and Marsha Davis; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Layton; one nephew, Greg Davis; and her parents.
Mrs. Layton is survived by one son, Thomas E. Layton, Jr., of Tuckerman; one daughter, Judy McAllister and husband, Chuck, of Spring Hill, Louisiana; one sister, Paula Long and husband, Tom, of Newport; two grandchildren, Cassie Coyle and Tara Layton Gates; three great grandchildren, Rowan Gates, Michael Coyle, and Asher Gates; three nephews, Kevin Long, Patrick Long, and Mason Long; two nieces, Joyce Cantrell and Lori Wilkerson; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Swifton Church of Christ, with interment following in Gracelawn Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Patrick Long, Matthew Bennett, Brian Brando, Brian Templeton, Kelly Cantrell, and John Gates.
