Obituary for Neal Wheeler
Mr. Neal Wheeler of Newark, Arkansas, departed this life on Saturday, October 07, 2017, at the age of 84. He was born October 25, 1932 in Moro, Arkansas, the son of Robert Irvin and Lena Elizabeth (Cagle) Wheeler.
Mr. Wheeler married Miss Doris Caldwell on July 13, 1954, and together they spent 63 years and raised four children.
He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War aboard the USS Juneau. Mr. Wheeler later operated Wheelers Service Station and was an insurance salesman. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards, and most importantly, spending time with his family. Mr. Wheeler loved helping people, and would often give to those who had no money with which to pay.
He was a member of the Newark Southern Baptist Church.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Doris (Caldwell) Wheeler of the home; one son, Robert “Bob” Monroe Wheeler and fiancé, Gena Wilson, of Newark; three daughters, Sheila Drake and husband, David, of Kingwood, Texas, Cindy Holland and husband, John, of Forrest City, Arkansas, and Laura Wilson and husband, Steve, of Newark, Arkansas; one sister, Mary Jane Caldwell of Clarenden, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Stacey Chism and husband, Jason, of Porter, Texas, Heather Harvey and husband, Jacob, of Porter, Texas, Joshua Allen of Paragould, Arkansas, Kelli McClain and husband, Mike, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Joey Fike and wife, Krista, of Newark, Arkansas; eight great-grandchildren, Steilee, Zachary, Jake, Bent, Logan, Whit, Cameron, Stevie Joe; a host of family, and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Sunday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Monday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Committal services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday at Caldwell Cemetery at Aubrey, Arkansas.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are John Holland, David Drake, Steve Wilson, John Rogers, David Caldwell, Tim Caldwell, Jim Ryan Harris, and Clay Davidson. Honorary pallbearers are Glenn Rushing, Terry “Turk” Cunningham, and Calvin Rollins.
